Bedford Toll Plaza
The Bedford Toll Plaza is the only mainline toll plaza along the Everett Turnpike, located in Bedford, New Hampshire. The toll plaza is located at the far northern end of the turnpike, as the turnpike ends and merges with Interstate 293 and the Central New Hampshire Tollway less than 2 miles north of the toll plaza.
Because the Bedford Toll Plaza is the only mainline toll along the entire 20-mile turnpike, a higher toll rate is charged than at many tolls along the Central New Hampshire Tollway and the Spaulding Turnpike. 2-axle vehicles who are paying cash (referred to as “passenger cars”) are charged a toll of $1.50 in either direction. 2-axle vehicles who have EZ-PASS or another compatible equivalent are charged a reduced toll of $0.75. The maximum toll rate for large trucks in cash is $7.50, and the maximum toll rate for large trucks with EZ-PASS is $6.75.
Ramp toll plazas at Interchanges 10, 11, and 12 in Merrimack, which are the last 3 exits before the Bedford Toll Plaza, exist to prevent motorists from exiting the highway at one of those interchanges, all of which provide access to the Daniel Webster Highway, then using the DW Highway to bypass the Bedford Toll Plaza, and re-entering the Central New Hampshire Tollway north of the toll plaza. This practice is often referred to as “Shunpiking” and it is not uncommon for ramp tolls to be constructed on either side of a mainline toll plaza on an open-barrier toll road to prevent this practice.
